I An offer is to be made to the Weli linghm Education Board to exchange corporation laud at The Ridgway for three sections of land owned by the Education Board at Gblendge street, Vogeltown. This, the finance committee pointed out to the council last night, -will enable the Education Board to retain the land on which they have been granted permission to erect a temporary school and which they desire should be afterwards available as a playing afea. An amusing instance of youthful sangfroid was described by a constable at the Christchurch Magistrate 7 a Omart. He had been watching a youth breaking a motor-cycle regulation, and went to take the number. The youth, riding pillion, seeing the movement of the constable, placed his hand over th* number at the rear of the cycle. Nemesis overtook him, however, for at that critical moment the inner workings of the cycle adopted a go-slow policy. YVaa the young man perturbed? Certainly not! fie merely gave his name as “Macintosh,’* a son of the City Council motor inspector, and went' on his way rejoicing!
