SPURIOUS BANK NOTES

DISCOVERY IN AUSTRALIA. _ The public are-officially warned to examine oarefully all £1 Australian notes tendered, as the Commonwealth Bank of Australia has found that; f° r * geries are in circulation, says a Sydney paper. When examined with ordinary care, say the bank authorities, the fact that they are forgeries can readily be detected, as the whole of the background of the notes has a blurred appearance, while the reproduction pf the fine white line work in the ornamentation -fili- ; gree at the top and the bottom of the notes is very crude. The fine parallel lines in the coat-of-anms are very much more distinct than on a genuine note. The back of the forged notes has a very .blurred appearance, which can be easily detected.
