AN ACCIDENT AT SEA
THE VALUE OF WIRELESS. The value of wireless telegraphy was demonstrated to the passengers on board the R.M.S. Athenic, which arrived at Wellington yesterday, in an interesting incident which occurred a couple of days before the vessel reached her first American port. On July 24th, the tenth day out from Southampton, the vessel closed with the 'American ship “West Cape” in response to a wireless message stating that a man on that vessel was bleeding to death. The Athenic’s surgeon, Dr C- H. Wilson, boarded* the “West Cape” and rendered surgical treatment. The man wa*» transferred to the Athenic at sea and conveyed to a hospital at Norfolk, ' irginia. Has leg had been shattered by an irun beam which fell upon him. Information was received before th© steamer left port that the sufferer wa» recovering, and tfiat he would probably not lose his leg.
