MR HUGHES IN FRANCE

\ TRADE RELATION'S DISCUSSED. CONTROL OF NEW HEBRIDES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 28, 11.5 p.m.) PARIS, August 26. Mr W. M. Hughes spent only a few hours at Paris, bait he conferred with M. Dior (Minister for Commerce) regarding trade relations. The French are puzzled concerning the new tariff. M. Dior requested consideration of a reciprocal arrangement. Mr Hughes also had a long conference with the French Colonial Office regarding the New Hebrides. He emphasised Australian views, and expressed the opinion that there could be a considerable improvement in the management of the island.
