Labour members' of the House of Commons lnrtoduced an Illegitimacy Bill proposing drastic amendments m the'law, including a provision that affiliation may bo made beifore the child’s birth; that the maximum weekly maintenance be £2; and that the father may. be ordered to contribute towards apprenticeship and special education. Maintenance may be ordered beyond the age of sixteen years "if tlie child is physically or mentally deformed. In tho alternative, the court may order payment in a. lump sum. It is proposed that a child can be legitimised by the subsequent marriage of the parents.
