Sir James Allen was present. . Sir Arthur Currie, in proposing the health of tho guest, said: “Canadians consider themselves the inheritors of all British traditions. Canada is a maritime nation in the middle of the world’s movements. It is conceivable that she may become tho pivot round which the future of hurqamty -will turn. She ia a direct link connecting the Mother Country with Australia, and must preserve the currents of life between them. Orientals are suspicious of European countries, and it is Canada’s task to interpret civilisation to them and to interpret the Mother Country to the United States.” Tho Duke of Connaught, -in replying, trusted Canada would jotain a warm heart for the" other great Dominions.
