SIR J. H. CARRUTHERS’S BIG SCHEME. By Telegraph—Pr<*<« —rVmY*-^ht SYDNEY. July 29. Sir J. H. Carruthers, in amplifying his scheme for the settling of a million pooplo on farms in Australia, said that there was sufficient id!e land available to provide an average of 17-10 acres for on© million new sertlers. Hr suggested asking Great Britain to construct the railways to open up the country, in return for land concessions. He added that he understood the J>nt;sii Government had sympathetically received * somewhat* similar proposal from the Federal Government.
