MUNICIPAL FIRE BRIGADE

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. PAST YEAR’S WORK. The annual report for the year ended March 31st last of the superintendent of the municipal fire department (Mr H. Tait) States that during the year the street fire alarm system worked satisfactorily. All the instalments had been overhauled, and the lines repaired or renewed where necessary. No exten sions had been possible, principally owing to the necessary materials being unobtainable; it was hoped that some additions might be possible during the current year. The whole system xym at present in good repair. Three now private fire alarm connections had been added, bringing the total up to 51, in addition to the Harbour Board’s seven ttemi-private points and the hospital’s five points. Referring to the stations and plant, Mr Tait stated that all tho plant and most of the stations were in good repair. Renovations to both had been carried out by the staff the. year. In view of the very old condition of the fire station at Roseneath the City Council had decided to remove the Hataitai station to that district. - Before this could be done a small piece of land had been required at tho site; this had now been obtained and the station would be removed as soon as possible. During the year 1248' inspections had been made, and 190 licenses issued for storage of goods. New regulations governing the storage of volatile liquids, etc., had been framed by the Government. It was as yet too soon to say just what effect they would have on the city’s present by-laws and the present methods of storage. The borough of Miramar and Seatoun having come into the city area, the brigade’s activities would now extend to those districts. t \ The superintendent concluded his' report with expressions of thanks to the members of the fire brigade committee and to the officers and members of the police department, fire police, and various departments of the City Council for their valuable assistance.
