WRECKAGE SIGHTED

DANGER. TO NAVIGATION. The Marine Department has received, through the General Post Office, the following message from the steamer Kawatiri: “Sighted, at 1 p.m. on July 29th, in lat. 39.30 S, long. 171.15 E, portion of a wharf, consisting of three lengths horizontal and eight vertical, floating 6ft above water; length about 40ft.. Dangerous to navigation. Please warn shipping.” The position of this wreckage at the present time is in the track of shipping from Australia passing through Cook Strait, and it bears from Cape Farewell 323 deg., 83 miles, and from Cape Egmont, 79deg., 119 miles. It is considered that the wreckage will eventually come ashore somewhere north of New Plymouth.
