THE GIRLS' COLLEGE

CONTRACT FOB BUILDING.

THE JRESENT POSITION. A brief discussion took place at yesterday’s meeting cf the Wellington College Board of Governors upon the contract for the construction pf the new girls' college. The chairman (Mr W. F. Wf»d) said that the board might appear to be delaying unneoessarily in fixing up the contract, but he had been tipring to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion with the contractor and the board’s engineer. A conclusion had been reached on Thursday night by which the contractor had agreed to accept £667, plus solicitors’ chargee, in settlement of his claim against the board for the recent stoppage of the work. The difference between the total claim and the value of the work actually carried out was £9O 14s 7d. This was treated by the board as compensation for loss of profit.
