Simpson, of Hunterville, were in town during last \veek._ Mrs Ernshaw, wife of the Hon. Ernshaw, M.I/.C., of Dunedin, has been the guest of Mr and Mrs P. Burkinan,' of “Queen's Drive/ - * Mr* and Mrs Reid, of Marlborough, have been spending a few days in Wanganui. , A number of the Wanganui Ladies Golf Club went to Waver ley on Friday and played a match against Wavexley. Among those who went were Mrs RussellGrace, Mis© Da-rley Mrs Saunders, Miss Harper, Mass Newcombe, Mrs Arton, Miss Addenbrooke, and Miss Jackson. The match, resulted as follows:—Miss Gibson lost to Mrs Grace, Mrs Dickson beat Miss Darby, Mis© Burke lost to Mrs Saunders, Mrs Muir beat Miss Harper. Mrs Symes lost to Mis© Smith, Mrs Hardy beat Miss Newcombe, Miss Cleary lost to Miss Addenbrooke, Mrs Johnston beat Mrs Orton, Mrs Train lost to Mrs Davis, and Mrs Metcalf lost to Miss Jackson. Mr L. Cohen and Mir R. Stevenson motored through oat Saturday to see the big football match in Wellington. The women's nursing division of the St. John Ambulance held a very enjoyable social and gift evening last week m the Y.M.C.A. There were fully forty present. The members of the men's division were among the guests. Before starting the competitions Mrs Brine welcomed all and thanked the ladies for the intitation issued. Music and singing, with com petitions, made up a jolly hour. Then supper was served and much enjoyed, end at nine o'clock the gymnasium was cleared and an impromptu dance was held for an hour. Among the guests were Mrs Johnston, who is a beautiful musician and composer, and she delighted those present with her playing. The hostesses were Mrs Slater and Mrs Tawse/ the former wore black silk and old rose* the latter was in all black crepe de chine. Others present were Mr and Mrs Kinder, Mr and Mrs Simon, Mr and Mrs Harle, Mrs Henson, Mrs Comyns, Mrs and Miss McCarthy, Mr and Mrs Brown, Mrs Wild, Misses Gleeson, Hall, Connor, Vine, MoSkdmming, Mysie Flyger, Buckendale, Nurse Jack, and Messrs Morgan. Brine, Battle, Davis, Melton, Gilberd, and ofheTs.

The Victoria League held another of their enjoyable dances on Wednesday evening. There were a good number of guests, the ladies including Mrs P. Marshall, Mrs Hay~Campbel 1, Mrs Rus-sell-Grace, Miss Addenbrooke, Mias W. Glasgow and Mies B. Glasgow, Mrs Rosa (Wellington), Miss Brookfield, Mrs Gibbons. Mrs lan Johnston, ana others. The members of the Westbourne Bowl- , ing Club held a dance on Saturday evening THE LAW CLERKS' BALL. It is a long time -since such. a successful; function as the above has taken place in Wanganui, and the Druids' Hail was too small for the merry crowd assembled. There were considerably oter three a hundred present, Tho-music wan supplied by Mies Gregorys orchestra, and was quite a jazz band at timeß. The floor w*ae ideal for dancing. Supper was .provided by the ladies, and was really delicious, and so wer»» the icecreams The ladies* committee attended to the guests. Those responsible were Misses vine, Oraig. Norman, and Tilly. Messrs Wills and Curtis w«re M.C/e. The only decorations were lines of small flags in the ballroom, and low va-see of spring buib# and violets on the supper tables. Among the guests were Mrs Hutton, who was in lemon crepe-de-chine, with hip bands of wedgewood blue ribbon velvet ornamented with sin all silver horseshoes; Miss Cohen was wearing a rich black satin and lace gown, with handsome jewelled ornament* on the corsage; Miss Curtis wore white georgette, with three scalloped frills on the skirt, edged with narrow satin ribbon; Mrs Tilly wore black taffeta with black ninon top over white; Mrs .Robertson wore an exquisite gown of green and silver tissue, with touches of cinnamon brown crepe-de-chine; Mre W. black silk gown was veiled ia soft black net, embroidered in silver bungles; Miss E. Glasgow wore a charming frock of white crepe-de-chine, the frilled dress edged with crystal fringe, and the corsage finished with georgette; Mies Vine wore slate blue taffeta with sti&pping* of deep rose pink; Mrs L. Craig, was iu black oharmeuse. veiled in silver-beaded net; Mrs H. Christie wore a beautiful iridescent black and blue fisher net over black charmeuse; Miss Brookfield, white charmeuse, with flowing angel sleeves of ninon; /Mrs N. Bain was in deep torquoise blue crepe de chine; Miss Hussy wore white crepe de chine; Miss Notman was in petal pink charmeuse with handkerchief effect in the tunic; her tisfcer wore white silk with embroidered lace overdrew; Mr© T. Blennerhasset's 'black georgette gown was edited w;th narrow jade satin; Mrs Wilis, black taffeta with touches of silver; Mrs Ross (Wellington) wore rich black velvet with transparent sleeves of black lace; Miss Keesing, vieux roee charmeuee, the > corsage and sleeves of georgette; Mrss Gavell, petal pink charmeuse; Mrs Brodde wore pale blue accordion pleated crepe de chine, with bands of silver gimp; Mrs Ourrie wore pale oreme charmeuse with three tiny frills on the hips and large velvet, rose at the waist; Miss D. Davies wore white orepe de chine and georgette; Mise Deem, pale pink crepe de chine; Ali&s Newman was in flame velvet, with touches of silver; her sister wore emerald green charmeuse with double frilled pane l effect, at the tides; Mbs Bayley, ipailest grey silk veiled, in ninon; Mrs Fieyberg wore a very smart gown in white georgette, with narrow hip panniers of silver tissue; Mrs lan Johnston wore all black charmeuse - Mrs Doig was also in black silk veiled in lace; Mrs Cleland wore a handsome gold embroidered net robe over a light brown charmeuse, with hip scarf of same; Miss Craig, black georgette over tiilk, with touches of gold lace on the corsage; Mrs Lomas, royal blue charmeuse veiled in same shade of exquisite lace; Miss Hart, orange satin, veiled in Oriental blue georgette; Miss Hood pearl grey soft satin; Miss M. McKenzie, dark 'blue crepe de chine, reHeved with lace; Miss Esther Speed wugin black tulle with side panels of blue tulle; Miss Moffitt wore palo blue crepe de chine with deep folas on the skirt; Airs Comyns, royal blue Oriental satin, with pointed overdress of black silk net.
