COTTAGE GARDENS

ISLAND BAY SOCIETY. The-third annual meeting of the society was held last evening in the Bowling Club pavilion. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follow:—President, Mr E. J. Colley (re-elected) ; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs A. Carter, A. S. Collins, H. H. Dixon, Lieutenant-Colonel J G. Hughes, D. 5.0., C.M.G., Messrs W. Kerr, R. Keene (senr.), H. H. Miller Colonel Mitchell, M.P., Messrs A. J 5. Odlin, C. C. Odlin, A. E. Preston, J. O. Shorland, .1 E. Thwaites, G. Yvebb, A. T. Wells. F N. Willoughby; lion, treasurer, Mr G. R. Jackman (re-elected); ton. secretary, Mr H. H. Dixon (re-elected) ; executive committee, Me&damea Wells and Hildor, Messrs Langley, Moss, Manttanr Boocoak, Tliompson, J. \V. Griffiths, MoILroy. Wells, Lever end Anyon. The president complimented members on the. interest maintained and suggested that the time had arrived when the activities of the society might be extended to promoting a scheme for beautifying the bay. Several new members were elected, and at the conclusion of the business of the meeting, Air R. A. Nicol gave an interesting address on the use and effect of fertilisers and manures, and also furnished valuable information on many poihte raised by interested hearers.
