, PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. ANNUAL SOCIAL AND DANCE. The Maranui Life-Saving Club .held its annual social and dance at the Kilbirnje Hall on Thursday evening, when the opportunity was taken to present the trophies won during the past seasonThe social was a great success, about 100 couples being present. -TJio hall was tastily decorated with coloured streamers and flags, the club colours of red and blue being a prominent feature. The floor was in excellent. order, a dainty supper was served by tho lady members of the committee, and the mimic supplied by Mr L. Walker largely contributed to the success of the evening. In introducing the vice-president of the club, Hr J. A. Tripe, the captain, Mr -R. Smith, took advantage of the occasion to draw attention to the fact that only through the support of such enthusiasts as Hi# Worship the Mayor, l>r Newman, and Messrs J. A. Tripe. A. J. Wahlers, T. Queree, T. Coltman, and others, who have done so much for life' saving, which is the sole object of the club, the latter is able to carry on its humane work. \ Mir J. A. Tripe, in presenting the medals and trophies to the successful members, congratulated them on their performances. The Mayor, in a suitable speech, said that it gave him great pleasure to be present, as he had always had the interests of swimming and life-saving at heart. Furthermore, he hoped that before long improved facilities for swimming would be made at Lrynll Bay. The evening then concluded with musical items and dancing. The club members resposxble for the slccoss of the. evening were Mrs Rusher, the Misses T. Barton and H. MoNotty. Messrs W Gea-Taylor, .J. Mowtell, E. Ffughes. J. Duffey, and R. Smith.
