THE INCOME LEVY. “UNJUST IN ITS INCIDENCE.** The present company tax was considered by the Farmers’ Union conference yesterday. Mr R. D. Duxfield (Horotiu) moved: “That the present income tax in respect to companies is unjust in its incidence. especially in rciaWion to small shareholders.” The reason for the motion, he said, was that under the existing conditions no investor would put Ids money into a company, and stagnation would result. No country worked on the lines adopted in New Zealand. The tax was unfair, and waa going to throttle industry. Cb plain Colbeck (Morrinsville) soo<Jnded. but he contended that neither the big nor the small shareholder, paid the tax ; the purchasing public paid H. However, he was opposed to the tax, and one reason was that it was going to make interest cr mortgages excessively high. The 'motion xas carried.
