ROSE CULTIVATION
WELLINGTON SOCIETY. EXTENSION ~OF FUNCTIONS. The annual meeting of the Wellington Rose and Carnation Club, was held in Dustin’s Rooms, Cuba street, last evening. The chairman (Mr J. B. Harcourt), who proposed the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, said it was to’ he regretted that the society had not made, the progress desired during the past two years. Two or three years ago the society had a membership of 200. since when the roll number had declined by nearly half. It remained now for the club to put a greater amount of energy into its efforts and to make a determined effort to increase the membership in; order that the love of the queen of flowers might attain the high position it should hold in a city like Wellington. In respect to the society’s finances, they were in a satisfactory condition, and the credit balance in hand amounted,to £45 Is. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following offieers were elected for the ensuing year:—President. Mr J. B. Harcourt; vice-presidents, Lady Duke) Mrs Arthur Pearce, Mrs H. M. Gore, Mre W. Turnbull, Mrs C. F. Vallance, Mrs (Dr) Hislop, Mrs R. M. Joseph, MrsG. Johnston, Mrs'S. Kirkcaldie. Miss Merchant, Me6s:s C. 'IV., Tringham, W. .J. Thompson, J. J. Kerslake, and T. Waugh; management committee, Messrs H. Richards, W. O. Bock, G. Jeffery, W. J. Harland, J. G. Helyer, J. W. Porteous, and J. G. McKenzie; hon. auditor, Mr R. M. Griffiths; " hon. secretary, Mr M. Thew. It was decided to change the .name of the society to that of the “Wellington Horticultural Society.”' It was dee:(led to hold the-anminl show on November 16th.
