J THE AIR CLEARED INSISTENCE OF SELF-DETERMINA* TION. (Received Julv 20, 1.30 a.m ) LONDON, July 19. Sir James Craig made a statement that the air has Deen cleared by Mr de Valera and his friends insisting on the question of self-determination for Ireland. The Sinn Feia candidates who stood at the Ulster elections were severely defeated on the questions of partition and self-determination. It now remains for Mr de Valera and his friends to make whatever settlement they can with the British Government. With this settlement l ister does not desire to interfere, unlike Mr do Valera, in the case of the Ulster settlement. “This being so,” he added, “I and my colleagues are returning to Ireland to attend to local affairs. I hope Mr de Valera and Mr Lloyd George will be able to reach an agreement. Ulster will be glad to co-oper-ate on equal terms in any necessary conference.” SINN FEIN PRISONERS CAUSE TROUBLE AT DARTMOOR Beater's Ttlemn(Received July 19, 8.10 p.m.) LONDON, July 18. Eighty Sinn Fern prisoners, who were brought to Dartmoor from Ireland a month ago, organised an attempt at passive resistance. When paraded and ordered to proceed with their usual tasks, they refused, doffed their caps and tunics, and began singing and dancing. They disregarded the governor's appeal to them to obey orders, and were forcibly replaced in the cells, after sharp struggle* with the warders.
