At the usual 'fortnightly meetino* of the S.P.O.A. committee, the president (Mr Meadoweroft) presided over a full attendance of members. A letter was received from Mr T. T. Hugo, enclosing a cheque fofr £o, in continuation of the late Mrs TLigo’-s annual donation for the purpose of an. Essay Competition —the subject being, "Tfie Humane Treatment to Dumb Animals/’ It was •resolved: “That the Essay Competition. be held as usual, and a eub-com-•mittee was appointed t-o draw up conditions. Correspondence was considered from the Christchurch S.R.O.A. on the questions of proposed amendment to the Police Offences Act regarding cruelty to animals. The matter was le'ft itli y the hands of the inspector to report. Collections totalling £3 3s 6d were acknowledged, including £1 2s 6d from the Levin District High School Junior League. The inspector reported on various cases that" he had looked into. Several letters were received lrom schools re the Junior which showed that the league was flourishing in a very satisfactory manner.
