“EASY MONEY” PROPOSALS
“TOO RIDICULOUS.” SAYS MR SHALLGRASS. With further reference to the opportunity of the tax-collector to secure more “easy money” by simply taking it from the racing public, Mr R. W. Shallcrass, general secretary of the New Zealand : Sports’ Protection League, says that the comments of the individual, made in the “New Zealand Times” of yesterday, are too ridiculous for serious comment. “The individual,” said Mr Shallcrass, “conveniently forgets that oaoh screw of tho neok of the golden goose affects her laying capacity, and it only hae to be screwed hdsxl enough, and she is dead, and the annual crop of over half a million golden eggs is lost. What a delightful picture, too, it makes for the bookmaker to contemplate! _ Does he pay any taxation? All this ‘easy money’ would bo diverted into his pockets.”
