I Amid appropriate military honours and stirring patriotic speeches, 349 Somme communes received the Croix do Guerre at the hands of the Minister fort War, yVI. Barthou. Marshal Foeh assistedLord Cavan, representing Britain, was also present, ;i * well as the Mayors of the municipalities of prominent English 'towns, which adopted the ruined Somme villages.
