INFLUX OF IMMIGRANTS
“ACfCTE IN THE EXTREME.” LABOUR’S CONTENTION. , The continuation of the present stream of immigrants into New Zealand was discusaed at a meeting of officers and executive members of industrial unions, and the Labour Party ~at a meeting held at Auckland on Saturday (writes the “Times” correspondent). In a circular letter issued by the Auckland Labour Representation Committee, inviting members of industrial unions in the Auckland district to the meeting, it ia contended that it is an ever-growing menace to tho workers, and that the situation is rapidly becoming acute in the extreme. The circular continues inter alia: “With thousands of unemployed now walking our streets, some effort must be made by organised Labour. Another boat load of immigrants is about to arrive next week, and we must let the workers of Britain know of the appalling conditions that exist to-day in God’s Own Country, due to the shortage of houses, shortage of work, and the Government’s immigration policy. “Comrades, let us forget any differences of opinion that may exist, and pul} together upon this very urgent and. important matter.”
