SHIPPING FUNCTION
SEND-OFF TO MR A. G. SCOTT. Mr A. Gr. Scott, of tho Wellington agency of the Federal Steam. Navigation Line 4vho is about, to transfer to the head office, at Sydney, of Birt and Company, Ltd., managing agents of the above line, was entertained at the Grand Hotel at a dinner last evening -by a number of shipping friends. There were about forty present, Mr Archibald Walker (surveyor for Lloyd's) occupied the chair. Captains of all the overScott, and also a travelling bag. Numerous apologies for unavoidable absence, including ' a radio message from the Ulimaroa, were received. At the conclusion of the dinner a most enjoyable smoke social was held. were given’ by Messrs L. Scotland, L. Jones, A. G. Scott. A. Bayfield. G. Naylor, and Arch. Walker. Recitations were contributed by 'Messrs Naylor, Scotland, and L. Jones. " Mr Probert as accompanist at the piano. The chairman, on behalf of Mr Scott'e nianv well-wishers, x>reeented him with handsome umbrellas for himself and Mrs Scott, and also a travelling ba<3 Amoncr the toasts celebrated were:— ftr Dhe Guest'', (proposed by Mr Walker and Oaptain" F. Jelly, responded to by Mr Scott); ''The Shipping Companies" (by Mr L. Jones and Mr N. Wifllcox, responded to "by Mr Scotland); ''The Visitors," coupled with the names of Mr John CouiU, of Wanganui, and Captain Hood, of the s.e. Port Caroline (by Mr Arch. Walker, responded to by. Mr Cpull); “The Head Office Staffs" (by Mr Arch Walker, responded to bv Mr Boulnois); "The Press" (by Messrs Arch. Walker and Mr A. G. Scott).
