EASTBOURNE FERRY FARES

REVENUE FOR CITY COUNCIL. FOR BOROUGH IMPROVEMENT. Same dissemission arose at the City Council last evening on a committee recommendation, which read as follows: “That the Eastbourne Borough Council be asked to grant the Wellington City Council 2d on each ticket jsened on the ferry steamers on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, the revenue so procured to he earmarked for the improvement of this council’s property at Day’s Bay.” Several members of the council opposed the recommendation, and two •aid it would make the council “look ridiculous.” Councillor T. Forsyth said the idea waa a good one, and could be used for the improvement of the tennis courts, etc., the council had at Day’s Bay. The result would he improvement* at the hay and increased patronage of Eastbourne’s ferry service. Councillor L. MoKenzie remaykisd that it had been suggested when the idea was put forward that the money should he used to provide extra tennis courts and extra accommodation for bathers. The danse was referred back to the committee.
