Market continues dull, with slow demand and still influenced by large supplies of beef. April shipments of beef “roan all parts of Great Britain are 470,OCO quarters' frozen, 280,000 quarters chilled. Ee ported; that Argentine Shippers intend restricting - beef shipment® by 50 >er cent., owing to heavy* stocks held bere. BUTTER. Market steady for beet Quality. May 13th.—New Zealand, 194 s to 19» (Is BJd to Is 9d); Australian, 186 sto 190 s (Is 7Jd to la 8id); Argentine, 160 s to 170 s (Is s£d to Is 6fcd>per lb); Danish, 192- to 198 e (Is Bid to Is 9*d); Ineh, salted 180 s to 190 s (Is 7Jd to Is 8M). ™- sadted 184 s to 195 s per cwt (Is 7Jd to Is 9J per lb). , CHEESE. May 7th.—Canadian (white), 158 s per cwt (Is 4Jd); Mav 13th.—New ' Zealand, white, 138 s to 140 s (Is 2id to Is 3d); coloured 154 s to 158* (1« 44d to Is 4Jd); Australian, white, 134 s to 138 s (Is 2id to Is 8Jd); coloured. 15Cs to 154 s (Is 4d to Is 4Jd). FRUIT. Australian, .prices continue satisfactory for good quality stuff, though much is wasty. Apples, prices range from 21s to 37s per case; Cox Orange and Cleopatras top of the market. Pears, considerably wet, realising 19s to 40s, according to 'ariety and quality. Hororttts arrived May 12th and commenced discharging. First sales may be to-day or eaily next veetk. Market more'or less cleared, and fruit should command good prices u con iition is satisfactory. -HEMP. Market feels the effect of the coal strike. Manila market quiet, and email business doing. **J" grade May-July shipment sold £39 per ton; February-April shipment quoted £42 per ton early this week, now at £49 per ton. New Zealand market continues dull, nothing doing. Sellers quote high points, afloat andalayJuly shipment, £4O; fair, spot, £3B per ton; possible buyers at 40s lower. WOOL. Sales closed yesterday. During this series 700 bales free New Zealand were offered, and all sold. Throughout senes Continental buyers-have given good support. andias sales progressed Home buyers Became more active and prices improved. the close merinos were selling at 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, above April rates. Crossbreds, selection limited'but received more attention, and at the close, price about 10 per cent, higher than closing rates last senes. This week B \ W R A. offerings consisted of:— Australian. Merino: Greasy. 9650 bales; scoured. 1950 bales. Crossbreds: Greasy, 3800 bales. ' New Zealand. Crossbreds: Greasy. 1600 bales; scoured, 500 bales; alipe, 1400 bales; reconditioned. 600 bales. Practically all sold on the same basis as free wool. Average closing values:— May 13th. —60/64’s (merino). Is Id to Is 4d; 56’s (super halfbred). la to Is 3d; 50's (halfbred). lOd to Is; 48’s (fine crossbred). 9d to Hd; 44/46’s (medium crossbred), 74d to 9(d; 36/40’s (coarse crossbred), 6d to 7 jd.
