Gregory and Andrews carried th< total to 372, when the former was nicely taken by Fowler. Gregory previous ly had bdfen dropped by Wilkinson Mayne was clean bowled when his score was 10. Burrows quickly disposed o: the last two wickets. The United Services in the first innings lost nine wickets for 260, and declared, the innings closed. Australia in the second innings had lost ‘one wicket for five runs when stumps were drawn. The Home team batted freely, and •50 was hoisted in forty minutes. Williams was run out when his total was 21. The second wicket fell for 62, the fourth at 96, and the fifth a ruir later. The century appeared in ninety minutes. F. Brooke played fearless cricket, his drives being brilliant. Oldfield missed stumping him, the ball going for four byes, buti the wicketkeeper redeemed his mistake shortly after. Collins bowled eight overs for 5 runs, and then Dickenson drove him to the boundary twice. The eighth wicket was down for 178. The second century appeared after three hours. Fowler and Ardhdale gave an exhibition of sparkling batting. Fowler contributed 50 out of 86, made in seventvfive minutes, by splendid, crisp %offstroke6. The innings was declared closed at 5.40. Tho twenty minutes remaining till stumps sufficed to account for one Australian wicket, Brooke smartly stumping Oollins at I—l.1 —1.
