The American A mbassador attended, and stated that his Government requested him to join the Conference aq a semi-official representative. . . The French Governmentj replying to a German Note regarding Slwa, protests against the mendacious nature of the Note, and adds: “All measures have been taka to restore order. The Allied troops have done their duty. The situation has improved, arid therefore there is no need for further help whatever,' even from Germany.” BERLIN, May ?- The French Ambassador has notified the Government that any inaaxnon by the Reichswehr into Upper fiilnw will be considered by France aa a violata* of the Treaty.

In tiie House of Oommoos Mr Cec3 Hannsworth ttated th«t the Polish insurgents had overrun the whole of the plebiscite area to the Kiver Oder. Ihe Allies were considering' proposals for a settlement, and steps were being taken to strengthen the police. The Polish Government had been requested to dose the frontier and prohibit assistance or encouragement of the insurgents. Mr liloyd George said .it was unfortunate the incident should have arisen when the German Government wr; making np its Tn i || d on the disarmament question. Britain was doing her utmost to bring pressure to bear ox the Polish Government.
