SEAMAN MISSING
FROM BARQUE MANUREWA. A HARBOUR~MYSTERY. When the barque Manurewa berthed at the ’Railway wharf yesterday ing tty discharge her-, cargo of timber from Gratftom N.S.W., the master, Captain R. G. Holmes, reported that a member of his crew, Luke Angrove, an A. 8., aged 43 years, had disappeared front the ship while she was anchored in the stream at Wellington during the previous night. Luke was on duty keeping an anchor watch, and was last seen at 9.30 o’clock on Monday evening. He was then about the ship’s deck and appeared normal. He had .instructions to waken the cook, Tom Burns, at 5.30 o’clock yesterday morning, hut did not do eo. At 6.30 a.m. Burns awoke and went to look for Angrove, but could not find him. No other member of the qrew saw anything of Angrove and it is surmised that ho fell or jumped overboard during the night. He was a native of England and had been ashore at Sydney for a considerable time before he joined the Manurewa at Gnafton, N.S.W., last month. Angrove is described as being of medium height and build, fair, with a small moustache and a slight growth of beard. He was reserved in his manner, but there was nothing about his manner to indicate that he contemplated suicide.
