The Wairarapa Hockey Association championship competitions, the first under the Saturday half-holiday, commenced this afternoon. At Masterton the Excelsor and P. and T. seniors met, and a fairly good game for so early in the season resulted. Paly was of an even nature. There. .was no score in the first spell, through the P. and T. team lost two easy chances cf scoring through over-eagerness, combined with lack of power to bring their attack to' a successful conclusion. In the second spell there were good rallies on both sides, and towards the close of the game, from a good piece of play Thompson scored for Excelsior. The game thus ended in a win for Excelsior by one goal to nil.
