Several bishops and heads pf the Nonconformist churches iu England and Scotland have' signed an appeal to the Premier and Sir Hamar Gieenwood (Chief Secretary) protesting against indiscriminate reprisal® in Deland, adding that they cannot regard the outrage® which occasioned the reprisals policy as ordinary wanton criminality but as the outcome of a sense of political grievance. They urge the Government to attempt to secure a truce and to adopt a policy of concilia- , tion.
