WAHINE STILL HELD UP
NO FIREMEN OR TRIMMERS THREE HUNDRED DISAPPOINTED PASSENGERS. MAIL® BY BADEN POWELL. The Union Steam Ship Company’s “ferry” steamer Vi'ahine was unable to leave Wellington last evening for Lyttelton as no firemen or trimmers could be obtained to fill the vnc-anciec caused by the vessel's stokehold crew signing’ off the articles on Wednesday. About half a dozen men signed on the ship’s articles yesterday, but they failed to join the vessel. Two or three of the late members of the Wahine’s stokehold crew have already gone away in some of the Union Company’s other boats.
About 300 people had booked to south by the Wahine last evening. The Union Company announce that the disappointed passengers should apply at the company’s offices between 9 a.m. and II a.m. to-day to have berths allotted for the Maori, which sails for Lyttelton this evening. The mails fo-r south were taken by the Baden Powell which left Wellington at 7.15 o’clock last evening. There will be no passenger boat to arrive at Wellington from Lyttelton to-morrow. The mails from south will leave Lyttelton for Wellington to-day, probably by tho tramp steamer Gorala.
