A most unusual incident occurred this week in tho Gisborne Supreme Court, just after tho case against Dennis O’Dwyer, charged with alleged fraudulent transaction, had been called. His Honour stated that ho had been informed that ono juryman had received an. anonymous letter, in connection with the case about to be heard. If any of the waiting jurors had also received similar letters ho would like them to step forward, and they would not be askod to sit oft tho jury. Thereupon four jurymen came forward from the body of the court. His Honour congratulated tho jurymen for their honesty in coming forward, and exempted them from further service. The letters were handed to the registrar, and will bo later handed over to the police.

The “Digger” newspaper, the special organ of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, published at lm ereargill, suddenly ceased publication last week. It explains: “'The committee controlling the management of the “Digger” has resolved with some foresight that the publication of the paper during such a period cannot be made a financial success. A large number of our advertising contracts expire with this issue, and while the majority of them might be renewed out of sympathy for our association, wo do not feel justified in appealing to that sentiment.”
