IN PERILOUS PLIGHT
FISHING PARTY’S THRILLING EXPERIENCE. PIE PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, March 15. The captain of the scow Wanderer, seeing a flare inside Kawau Island, found three men clinging to a launch which had been burnt to the water’s edge. The men had already been, an hour in the water. The launch sank five minutes after they were saved. They were from Matakana, bound on fishing trip. It was fine weather, with a calm sea. The launch became suddenly enveloped in flames, apparently from the engine-room. The occupants jumped overboard, and remained in. the water till help arrived.
