Mr A. G. Fenwick, of Dunedin, has gone to Honolulu on a holiday trip.

Battery Sergeant-Major IV. F. Bristow, R.N.Z.A., has been awarded the Merilpri.ous Service Medal.

Mr F. B. Cresswell, of Christchurch, who has been in the North Island, has returned to his home.

Mr H. H. De Costa, of Gisborne, Is on a visit to Wellington for a few days. Ho will return home on Friday.

Mr Kinross White, a well-known settler in the Poverty Bay district, is at present visiting Wellington.

A visitor to Wellington at present Is Mr C. A. de Lautour, of Gisborne, who lias come down to attend a meeting of the Produce Committee.

Lieutenant - Colonel McCarroll, C.M.G., D. 5.0., has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Lbhg-Service Medal.

Mr H. W. Hopkins, <of the X.Z.M.T. Agency and Trustee Company, and business manager of the Waihi Goldmining Company, is in Hamilton.

Mr D. C. Bates, Government Meteorologist, while in the Waikato recfttly, re-established a meteorological station at the Ruakura State Farm.

Mr O. D. Flamank, head teacher at N.E. Valley school (Dunedin), has been re-elected unopposed as one of tbe South Island representatives on tin Teachers’ Superannuation Board.

Mr Foster, assistant master at the Hampstead School, has been appointed assistant at the Government School, Samoa, and will leave Auckland on March 2-sth.

Mr C. O. S'herwood, manager of the Dunlop Rubber Company, New South Wales, is spending a few days in Christchurch before joining the Ronhine on a trip to the Old Country.

Major Glendining, in command of the Southland defenro area, has been transferred to Hamilton. Captain Weii. who has been second in command in tbe local group, will now take over control.

Mr J. H. C. Bond, who has been ap> pointed Dominion superintendent for the New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd., has come down from Auckland to Wellington, where he will make hi* headquarters.

Company Sergeant-Major J. Bertram, of the 7 th* (Wellington-West Coast) Regiment, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-Service Medal; also Sergeant G. Williams, late 9tb (Hawke’s Bay) Regiment.

In the New Year’s honours list, Cap tain Keith R. Park, M.C., D.F.C. (a son of Professor Park, of Dunedin) is gazetted to the rank of permanent major and squadron leader in the Royal Air Force.

Mr R. L. Begg, who was auctioneer for the Gore branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Co-, Ltd., for a number of years, is at present on a visit to Gore (says the “Ensign”). Mi Begg its now engaged in farming in thi Wanganui district.

Mr A. R. Young, Director of the Live Stock Division of the Agricultural Department, has left on a visit to Afamaki—at which place the bush sickness farm is located—and Auckland. He is accompanied by Mr B. C. Aston, the Agricultural Chemist.

Mr H V. Neilson, manager of the Thames Valley Dairy Company’s Paero a butter factory, bas been transferred to Waitoa dried milk factory as assistant manager. Mr A. J - Garry, late manager of the Helensville butter factory, succeeds Mr Neilson at Paeroa.

Dr Reakes (Director of Agriculture) and Air J. A. Campbell (AssistantDirector of Horticulture) have been in Hamilton, conducting investigations in the fruit and hawthorn disease, fireblight. They addressed a meeting of farmers at Ruakura State Farm prior to returning to Wellington,

Air J. Lynskey (Petone), who is leaving the district- to take up a position at Pahiatua, and who was a selector of representative teams, was accorded a vote of appreciation by the delegated at the annual meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union last night. Air Lynskey was elected a life-member of tac union.

A vote of condolence with tbe family of the late Air Boyes was passed at a meeting of the Stationary Enginedrivers and Firemen’s Union on Monday evening, all present standing in silence. The president of the union, Mr K. P. Ashman, spoke in high terms of the character of the deceased gentleman. The union voted a sum of £.5 to be contributed to the Boyes relief fund.

The Rev. John Dennis, who is removed to Te Kuiti. conducted a farewell service at Rugby Church, Christchurch. At its close the congregation remained, and Mr C. F. Edgar expressed the regret of all present at the departure of Mr Dennis, and extended good wishes for his future welfare. As a small memento of the esteem in which he is held he was presented with a case of cutlery.

At last night’s annual _ meeting of the "Wellington Rugby Union, the excellent work that had been accomplished by Air W. Hornig, as chairman of tho management committee, was placed on record, on the motion of Air J. N. Millard, seconded by Air J. (ySnllivun. fh© motion was carried by acclamation. Tn returning thanks Air Hornig said that- Rugbv football was his only hobby. He had been on the management committee for ten years and it was a wrench to sever his connection with the committee, but business ties would not allow him to give the tinje necessary to the active management of the game.
