PLUNKET SOCIETY
THE. GOVERNMENT GRANT. FURTHER £3OOO TO-DAY. Replying to a question by Mr T. K. Sidey (Dimedin Central), in the House yesterday afternoon, the Minister for. Public Health. (the Hon. C. J. Parr) said that the position as between the Plnnket Society and the Government was that there was a total grant- of £6650 this. year. Of this, £3OOO had been paid, leaving a balance of £3650 due. Be gathered that it was customary to make the final payment at the end. of the financial year, It was necessary that the department should have the list of nurses engaged in the work, 6ome sixty, because it gave £l2O each year towards the salary of each nurse. He recognised, however, the difficulties of the. society, and he proposed to ask the Finance Minister to make a payment of £3OOO to-day, leaving £650 to be paid at the end of the financial year, March 31st. He would consider the question of paying half of next year’s 'grant in August next, as had been done during the present financial year.
