RUGBY FOOTBALL

THE COMING SEASON local clubs hold annual MEETINGS. THE PE,TONE CLUB. Tile thirtieth annual meeting of the Petone Club was held in the Ranfurly Hall, Petone. Mr J. H. Lvnsky presided over an attendance of K\) members. A .SUCCESSFUL YEAR. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, congratulated the club on its fine performance during the past season. The financial position of the club was also stated to be very good, and tile members had every* reason to be proud of the way in which the officials had carried ou the business of the club. The record of each team was excellent, and he thought the total of 973 points for and 346 against was a matter for great pride. He hoped the club would experience an even better season this year. Mr Hardliam, who seconded the mo tion, also congratulated the members on the excellent season they had experienced. He pointed out that of the 62 games played by the various teams, 49 had been won, 3 drawn, and only 10 lost, which was indeed an excellent record, and one of which any club might well be proud. Touching on the quostion of referees, he impressed upon the younger members that the referee was there for the good of the game, and whatever his decisions might be, they should accept them with out question. The report and balance-sheet were then adopted.

Newman, M.P., presided at the annual meeting of the Poneke Football Club. The annual report and balance-sheet (extracts of which have already appeared) were adopted, the chairman remarking that the prospects for the season were very bright. OFFICERS ELECTED. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Dr A. K. Newman ( re-elected); new vice-presidents, Messrs G. Williams, S. Murray, G. Warren, and Mrs G. Aston; secretary, Mr C. Aamodit; assistant secretary, Mr S- Youmans; treasurer. Mr C. Mitchell; club captain. Mr D. Calcinai; gymnasium committee, Messrs N. Wilkinson, C. Mitchell. A. F. AViren, A. Griffiths, and D. Calcinai; management committee, Messrs J. Calcinai, D. A.lgar, E. Hughesj E. King, B. Algnr. F. Til yard, and J. McArthur; selection committee, Messrs A. Mitchell were elected life members. Messrs W. Wilkinson, P. Calcinai, O. .'Calcinai, E. Hughes, and S. S. Dean expressed their willingness to assist in the ■coaching of lower grade teams. Mr Dean stated that he would donate trophies to the fifth and sixth class teams. ATHLETIC. At the annual meeting of the Athletao Rugby Football Club, Mr W. S. Ridler g resided. Mr Ridler referred to the ealteky position of the dub, both from football, membership, and financial standpoints. The prospects for title ensuing ‘season were very encouraging. The report stated that during the coming season the mortgage on the club’s gymnasium property, at present .£SOO, will require to be renewed. As a result of the policy of the committee during the past season there is an amount of approximately -6210 in hand. The committee recommended that before the date of renewal an effort be made to collect a further suni in reduction of the mortgage. OFFICERS FOR THE YEAR.

Members of the Lower Hutt Club held their annual meeting last week. Mr A. Mcßain presided. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated that ever since its inception the progress of the club lias been impeded through lack of a gymnasium for practice purposes, and wath a view to acquiring premises for such use, a building fund was inaugurated some years ago. The balance. standing at the credit of this fund at tho present time is .£447 2s, representing an increase on last year's figures of .6234 2s 7d. The committee's object is to acquire another section deemed to be more suitable for a gymnasium, on account of its locality and rateable value. According to an estim'ate, ,£3OO would be . required before a commencement could bo made with the erection of the building. OFFICERS ELECTED.
