FIRES IN CITY

TWO OUTBREAKS YESTERDAY. At 12.32 a.m. yesterday the fire brigade was called to an outbreak of fire at Phillips’e butcher’s shop, Courtenay place. The office was found to be well alight, and before the flames were extinguished by the brigade both the room and its contents were badly damaged. The fire » believed to be due to the spontaneous ignition of some oil-rags. ... At 7.51 last night the brigade received another call, to the Whitehall Boardinghouse, Plimmer’s Steps, occupied by Mr Raymond Allen. The fire, which had broken out in the storeroom, was quickly got under by the brigade; but the store and its contents were considerably damaged by fire and water.
