AY. Bur-ridge, ALA., B. formerly of St. John’s. Wellington, lias been called to the FLsendeig Presbyterian Church, Melbourne. Air AV. A. Aliller has been appointed honorary ranger for the AVellington Acclimatisation Society in the Ekotahuna district. Air W. Dobson. J.P., has been appointed coroner for the Dannevirke district in succession to Air John Drummond, who recently resigned. Air F. Truman, of the staff of the Railway Department at Auckland, haa been ap; so in ted stationmaster at Gisborne. Mr H. High, one of the principals of an English shipping firm with operations extending to Australia, is at pensent visiting New Zealand and is expected at AVellington this week. The Rev. R. AI. Ryburn. if-A., is to be inducted into his new post as director of youth work to the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, in St. Paul’s Church, Christchurch, on Wednesday evening. Dr C. Prendergast Knight, and Messrs T. Shailer AVeston and R- B. Jackson, directors of the Talisman Consolidated Co., returned to Wellington at the end of last week after attending the annual meeting. Mr W. H. Newton, headmaster of the Grey Lynn State school, has been elected unopposed to represent toe North Island on toe Teachers’ Superannuation Board, in succession to Mr H. G. Cousins. The Rev. F. J. Barker, of Dunedin, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. R. J. Liddell as minister of the Gore Methodist Church. Mr Parker will commence his labours there about the middle of April. Mr H. S. Hammond, who for soma time past has occupied toe position of accountant at toe Invercargill branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to a similar position on the Dunedin staff. Mr W. H. Newton, headmaster of the Grey Lynn school, has been elected unopposed as representative of the teachers in the North Island, on the Teachers’ Superannuation Board, in succession to Mr H. G. Cousins. Private advice has been received in Christchurch, to toe effect that Dr H. G. Denham, an old Canterbury College student, has been appointed Professor of Inorganic Chemistry, the principal position in chemistry, at the Capetown University. Air J. O. AI. Evison has been appointed Resident Commissioner at Nine Island: also judge of the HighCourt and or toe Native Land Coart at the Cook Islands, in {dace of Mr G. N. Morris, who has been transferred. Mr Evison has been a school teacher in the island. At a meeting of the Gore Presbyterian Church it was decided unanimously to extend a call to Rev. John Alcllroy. He is a native of the North of Ireland, and was educated at Belfast. Mr Alcllroy is one of the new ministers recommended by Dr Gibb to come to toe Dominion. Mr E T. Beauregard, who arrived from Sydney by the Alaheno, has now taken up his duties as French Consul in New Zealand, with residence in Auckland, relieving M. Hippeau. M. and Aladame Hippeau will spend a few days at Rotorua before leaving far France, via Sydney. Dr G. G. Kennv, who has practised at Te Aroha for the past 17 years, haa been appointed resident medical officer at Fanning Island for the Pacifio Cable Board, and leaves in about a fortnight’s time for his new duties. Dr Kennv was formerly superintendent of the Waikato Hospital, and Government medical officer at Rotorua before removing to Te Aroha. The funeral of the late Air J. B> Gibbons, for more than 30 years chief reporter of the “Evening Post,” took place at Karorri cemetery yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering of mourners. The Rev. W_ Fancourt (vicar of St. Thomas’s Church) officiated. The chief mourners were three of deceased’s brothers— Captain R. H. Gibbons (harbourmaster at Onehunga), and Alessrs Frank Gibbons (of the firm of Gibbons and Sons, Auckland), and Fred Gibbons (postmaster at Raglan)—Alaster Kingston Gibsons (son), Air Canning (father-in-law), and Air Poulsford, junr. (nephew); while six members of the “Evening Post” staff acted as pall-bearers. The remains, enclosed in a handsome coffin, covered with a. large number of beautiful -wreaths were conveyed from toe mortuary chapel, Taranaki street, to the cemetery in a motor-hearse, and the funeral cortege comprised upwards of a dozen motor-cars. A large crowd had also gathered at the graveside to pay the last tribute to the deceased. Among those present were His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) and members of both branches of the Legislature, Hon. AV. C. F. Corner oss (Speaker of the Legislative Council), Air A. Gray. K. 0.. the Mayor (Mr .T. P. I-like. C.AI.G.. AI.P.). Messrs C. AI. Luke, A. A. Mmyatt, C. AI. Wilson (librarian. General Assembly Library), Fred AA'eeton and J. At. Oeddis (“Hansard” staff), W. H. Atack, R. Lindsay Buick, and F. ff. Morgan (Press Association). AH departments of the “Evening Post” were very fully represented, among tho6e in attendance being Alessrs P-, W-, and L.
