SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY

A BUSY WEEK. The influx of ships to tlhe wharves meant a “full house” this week at the Sailors’ Friend Society, when Madame Dempster gave a concert that roused much enthusiasm. The performers were: Madames Dempster, Edwards and Patterson, the Misses Bennett, Passan, Mbuntier and the Messrs Mounter, Pope, and Hamlet. Madame Dempster was at the piano. The famous “institute jug”- was sold by the chairman for the Home for Blinded Sailors, Miss Weston’s work, and the local institute. Mr Moore thanked recent donors of books, and pleaded for j more for the crowded port.
