FRUIT AND PRODUCE MODERATE SUPPLIES AND SOUND VALUES. THE BILLING RATES. I cry little variation • has been recorded at the local market* this wees respecting values generally, and supplies of all lines are coming forward consistently. Tomatoes have lost a- little popularity, and consequently values have adjusted themselves to the .weakening den and. Oranges are extremely scarce and overseas shipments are being keenly anticipated. High values will no doubt prevail for the next shipment of oranges.
Bananas are also becoming scarce and the supply is entirely superseded by the demand. Watermelons and coconuts are in poor supply with a moderate demand only prevailing. Some prices for fruit yesterday were given as : —Apples, choice dessert favourites, 7s case: prime, 5s to 6s; others, 4s to 4s 6d ; cookers, choice, 4s 6d to ss; others, 3s 6d to 4s; plums, 4s 6d .to 5s 6d; tomatoes, ripe, 2® 6d to 3s; coloured, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; lemons, 355; peaches, 5s to 6s 6d; walnuts, Is 3d lb. POTATOES AND ONIONS. The market has been rather qniet for potatoes and onions this week and moderate prices rule. There are practically iio Auckland-grown potatoes coming forward now. Prices are : Potatoes, Hutt, 9s cwt. • Otaii, 6b to 7s; onions, £8 to £lO ton. OTHER VEGETABLES, i Only choice lines of vegetables maintain moderate prices, the market for other lines being a little dull. However, little change has taken place on last week’s quotations. Cucumbers have become cheaper, and also carrots, by -reason of the increase iu supplies. Choice cauliflowers have been receiving favourable attention. Marrows are in fair demand again, but ei tremely cheap, there being an abiindr nee on the'market. Vegetable quotations yesterday were r—Cabbages, choice heavy, 8s to 10s; prime, 6a 6d to 7s 6d; others. 5s to 6s; cauliflower®, choice, 12s to 15s; prime, 10s to lls; others, 8s; parsnips, 12s sack; cucumbers, Is to Ss doz; scarlet runners, 2sd; French 'beans, 2d lb; green peas, choice, 2s peak; others, Is 6d; turnips, white, 3s sack ; swedes, 6s to 7s; spring onions, Is to Is 6d bunch; marrows, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; lettuce 3s to ss; carrots, 4s to 6s sack, beetroot, 3s to 4s. POULTRY. Poultry is in good -demand this week and sound values have been, recorded. Prices this week are :—Heavy roosters, 6s 6d to 7s 6d; hens, 5s to 6s; ducks, 13s to 14s ; geese, 13s to 14s; turkeys, Is 7d to Is 8d; dressed pork, 7d to 8d; choppers, 3)d to 4d lb. EGGS. Eggs are moderately plentiful again and prices a little under last week’s quotations. The tendency is to remain fiim until after Easter. Eggs, 2s 7d to 2® 9d.
