The House of Representatives grant ed yesterday afternoon two days’ leave of absence, on account of urgent public business, to Mr Tan Henare, member for the Northern Maori Hectorate. 3lr G. D. Delprat has resigned the position- of general manager of the Broken Hill Proprietary Co., and haa been appointed consulting engineer. Mr Essington Lewis, late assistant-general manager, has been appointed 31r Delprat’s successor. Mr A. F. Wright has left Christchurch on his way to Auckland, where he will appear with Mr C. P. Skerrett, K.C., of Wellington, for Canterbury shareholders in a Supreme Court action against the directors of the Dominion Cement Company. Mr John Cleland, a member of the Waimairi County Council, has returned to Canterbury from the North Island, having spent a few weeks in the northern cities, combining business with pleasure. He inspected many new roads and local works. Mr George Davidson, of Hokitika, has been spending a few days in Christchurch. Air Davidson, who is chairman of the Westland Hospital Board, was on his way back to the Coast from Napier, where he attended the conference of fire brigades. Captain. John Burns, second son of Sir James Burns, principal of the firm of Burns, Philp and Co., Ltd., died recently at Cootamundra (N.S.W.), aged 35 years. During the war he was A.D.C. to General Walker at Gallipoli. Death was due to complications arising out of illness contracted on war service. Mr A. Jamieson, 0.8. E., Chief Provost of Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland, who is now at Auckland, intends making a trip that will embrace all the other chief centres of the Dominion before returning Home, via Australia. He has been Chief Provost of Darvel for some 27 years, and received the 0.8-E. for war work.

Dr. G. G. Kenny, who has practised at Te Aroha for the past 17 years, has been appointed resident medical officer at Fanning Island for t-he Pacific Cable Board, and leaves in about a fortnight’s time for his new duties. Dr. Kenny is one of the best-known medical men in the Auckland province, having been for a number of years superintendent of the Waikato Hospital,’ and Government medical officer at Rotorua before removing to Te Aroha.

The resignation of Mr E. Rabbidge, gas engineer, who has been appointed to a municipal position at Palmestou North, was accepted at this week's meeting of the Invercargill Borough Council. Councillor J. F. Lillicrap, chairman of the gas committee, stated that Air Rabbidge, who had been thirteen years in the employ of the corporation. had carried out his duties in an able and efficient manner. The resignation was referred to the committee for a recommendation.

On Saturday night about 60 were present at a farewell social held by the public works section of the Invercargill corporation staff tendered to Air W. -Murray, drainage and plumbing inspector, who is leaving to enter the service of the Government at Alastcrton. The Borough Engineer (.Mr G. F. Clapcott.) presided, and the Mayor (Mr John Stead) and representatives of the Plumbers’ Association were present. During the evening Mr Murray was presented with a handsome dock, and several speakers, while wishing him good toi tune in his new position, testified to the esteem in which he was held. All Murray suitably replied, and the rest of the evening was spent in enjoyable instrumental and vocal items.

Mr K. H. Dawson, the well-known krtationniastcr at Wellington, will retire on superannuation on April 23rd next. Air Dawson, who is a familiar figure to regular travellers on the Alain Trunk line, joined the railway service as a casual employee at Dunedin in 18S3. He was appointed to the }>ermalient staff in ISSo. In IS9O he became stationmaster at Wniir.angarna on tlio Westport section, and from there was piomoied to stationmaster at Huntly, Waikato, in 1597. Three years later Mr Dawson was appointed traffic inspector for the Wellington district, holding this position till 1913.. when” he was promoted to stationmaster at Wellington. This position he has held evei since, with the exception of six month*, acting as goods agent, Wellington.
