DISPUTE REFERRED TO THE COURT. A Conciliation Council mot yesterday in order to consider the claims of the Federate.! Cooks and' Stewards’ Uni.on for a new award governing the conditions of employees on the Union Steam Ship Company’s vessels. The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr W. Newton) presided. - The union’s claims have already been published. The council held its deliberations in committee. At the conclusion of the sitting the Commissioner announced that most of the points in dispute had been agreed to between the parties, hut the maul questions of wages and hours of work had not been settled. The case would accordingly he referred to the Arbitration Court for settlement.
