A SYNDICALIST PLOT
ASSASSINATION OF SPANISH PREMIER. Australian and '•* v " ’ V ' -en~inHna. MADRID, Mhrch 9. Three men in motor-cycles pursued and overtook Senor -Dato’s (Spanish Premier) motor-car when driving from the Senate and fired twenty-seven shots. Senor Dato’s chauffeur rapidly drove to a doctor. Senor Dato received many wounds and died before the car reached the doctor. The assailants escaped. The attack was the outcome of aSyndicalist plot, as a reprisal for the suppression- of the Barcelona disorders. The extreme Syndicalists regarded Dato as a sworn enemy. WARNINGS~UNHEEDED. (Received March 10, 8.35 p.m.) MADRID, March 10. A wrecked motor-cycle- has been found thirty miles south of Madrid, with one injured passenger, who may be one of Senor Dato’s assassins. The motor-police believe that the plot was planned in Franco. There had been warning® of such a plot. The assassins apparently rehearsed the crime on the sth, when everything except the shooting happened as on Tuesday night. The secretary accompanying the Premier, fearing»mischief was afoot, reminded Senor Dato of previous warnings. Senor Dato replied that ho was a fatalist, and that “public life had its inconvenience*. ’ *
