“THE WRONG TICKET”

ALLEGED ASSAULT ON CHINAMAN. Before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon Ernest James Smyth, a waterside worker (Mr A. B. Sievwrigiht), was charged with assaulting Chan. You Kwong, a Chinaman in Molesworth street, on Monday night last. The dispute, it was stated, arose over a jparcel of laundry. Accused, it was sard, went to Kwong’s shop on the night in question to procure his laundry, and on receiving In's parcel a dispute arose as to its contents, Smyth contending that he was several articles short. Constable Deal said he’ saw the accused strike the Chinaman on the shoulder. After hearing further evidence Hia Worship dismissed the case, on the grounds that the evidence was of a conflicting nature.
