THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE IMPORTANT BUSINESS AT YESTERDAY'S MEETING. FIRST READING OF STATIONS. The Rev. J. H. Haslam presented to the Methodist Conference yesterday the report of the Board of Examiners dealing with the appointment of examiners for 10*21, the revision of the curriculum-and other details. The report, with amendments, was adopted. APPOINTMENTS. The secretary of the conference (Rev. A. Asheroit), before presenting tho first reading of stations, moved the following recommendations, which were agreed to : That the Rev. H. Benny be appointed to a circuit, the Rev. A. N. Contain be readmitted to the ministry, the Rev. R. B Cosniil bo a supernumerary for one year, the Rev. J, C. Chapman a supernumerary for another year, the Revs. J. Guy and Dr Pinfold to become supernumeraries. The rest of the morning was taken up with the discussion of reading of stations. FIRST READING OF STATIONS. CARRIED BY CONFERENCE. Richards. m THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE. At the afternoon, session she Jtev. J. A. LochoT© submitted the, reports of the committee of management* of the Theological College, and Mr C. A. Buttle the baii«nce-slieet. The conference carried a congratulatory motion, thanking the Rev. C. H. Laws and Mrs Laws for their work in connection ■with the college. Mr <G. A. Buttle, Rev. J. F. Jones, and Mr A. Peak were also thanked for services rendered. Some discussion took place on the obtaining of a sit© for the erection, of a Theological College. After the principal (Rev. C. H. Laws, 13. A.) had explained the situation, the conference expressed its approval! of the action of tho committee negotiating far a site situated dn Grafton road, Auckland. , SPLENDID WORK. The report of the Deaconess’s Institution was presented. Mrs Bowie, it was stated, has done splendid work as lady superintendent, and there arc six probationers in residence, two of whom have the work among the Maoris in view. Each is diligent in hor studies and. gives promise of future usefulness. Fiv© appointments of deaconesses had been made since the last conference. The Rev. W. Beckett, who is secretary of the institution, was thanked for lias services and reappointed. The deaconess's retiring fund scheme was referred to the vsruperanumerary fund committee for consideration. THE ORPHANAGE. The reports of the North and -South Island Orphanages were received and adopted. There are now 80 children in residence in both orphanages. The officials were heartily thanked by the conference. A report was received in connection with the progress of the erection of the orphanage at Masterton. The shortage
of cement, /c was stated, accounted for the delay vl completing- the work. BUILDING AND LOAN FUND. Tho Rev. S. Lowry (connexional secretary) presented the report of the church building: and loan fund. New loans advanced during the year totalled .£4020. The trust accounts of the connexion show an income of <£30,492, and an es--1 penditure of ,£69,696. Debit balances carried forward totalled .£8134; but credit balances reached a total of ,£10,796. There was a considerable reduction in church debts m some circuits amounting to over <£11,000; while the increase in church debts in other circuits amounted t0'.£5600. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to all the secretaries of church properties dn the various districts, including a special; vorte of Mr C. E. Salter, of Christchurch, who had been compelled to retire, through sickness, after many years of splendid service.
