VOCATIONAL TRAINING

POLICY OF GONGENTRATIOR HEAD OFFICES IN WELLINGTON AND CHRISTCHURCH. FURTHER REDUCTIONS. The Defence vocational branch is cm. gaged on the work of concentration which has become necessary owing to a number of the smaller institutions having closed down. It is recognised that by concentration the work can be carried out more efficiently and more economically. The system is being reorganised, and two of the districts are being absorbed by others. In future the Auckland and Dunedin vocational districts will be administered from Wellington and Christchurch respectively, which means that several members of the staff will be demobilised. Captain Galloway will assume charge of the North Island and Lieutenant Fenton of the South Island institutions, and the head offices will be at Wellington and Christchurch respectively. This saving has been brought about by concentration and there is no intention of curtailing the present activities of the department. _ In the first place the work of vocational training was organised at twesityfour military hospitals and sanatoria m the Dominion, aim the work is now carried on at twelve institutions- Organisation has been the means trf cutting the expenditure down appreciably, and it is anticipated that when the work ia completed there will be a still further reduction in the staff.
