FIRE AT THORNDON

CAUSED BY LIGHTED CANDLE. BRIGADE’S SAIARt WORK. At 12.54 o’clock yesterday morning the fire brigade received a call to Np. 47, Thorndon quay, a six-TOomefl dwelling, occupied by Airs Elsie Alay Smith. The brigadesmen extinguished the outbreak in a few minutes, but the scullery and bathroom were badly damaged by fire and the kitchen was slightly affected. It seems .the fire originated through a candle being left; alight in the bathroom. There were no insurances on the contents, but the building, which belongs to the Gilmer and Maguire estate, was covered by a policy for £BOO in the Atlas office.
