BIG ATHLETICS
SPORT AT BASIN RESERVE WILSON AND TAYLOR STAR PERFORMERS. PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. The provincial championship meeting of the ."Wellington centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held at the Basin Reserve on Saturday and resulted in some very exciting sport. Unfortunately the climhtie conditions were decidedly unfavourable, a biting southerly wind an& occasional showers of driving rain making matters unpleasant both for athletes and spectators. It a as a real wintry and as the sky looked ominous at 1.40 p.m. there is little, doubt that the attendneo was adversely affected. Not that there were few onlookers. To the contrary. And those present- had the satisfaction of being moved to enthusiasm. The star performers were H. E. Wilson, who represented the Dominion at the recent Olympiad, and C. H. Taylor, a young Canterbury runner of great promise. They each' won three championships —Wilson the 100yds, I2oyds hurdles, and the long jump; and Taylor the quarter-mile, half-mile, and mile.
