ACCIDENT IN TIMBER YARD. MAN’S HAND BADLY OUT. A young man named Arthur Eagle, Employed at Messrs Booth’s timber yards, in Oanstabi© street, and residing at 50, Constable street, was admitted to the hospital! yesterday suffering from injuries received to the right band whilst working a circular saw. The hand has Ibeen cut nearly through and date yesterday it was thought .probable that a surgical operation would be necessary. The man is 21 years of age, single, and resides with his parents. Smallfield, a well-known stockbuyer and owner of the racehorse Lucy French, went swimming in company with an employee named Keith Chapman. After spending a short time in the water both headed for the bank. On climbing ashore, however, Chapman a a®, surprised to find that Smallfield had disappeared. Chapman searched, but could find no trace of his companion, and the only conclusion was that ho had been drowned. The police carried out dragging operations, but did not find the body.
