CITY MILK SUPPLY
RECENT OPERATIONS. “FINANCIAL POSITION SATISFACTORY.” A return furnished to The City Council last night showed the following details in connection with the operations of the corporation milk department during the months of November and December, 1920, respectively :—Gallons treated, 133,522, 126,6861; revenue, £13,908 10s lOd, £13,196 9s 8d; revenue per gallon, 25d, 2od; cost per fallen, 2Q.5d, 20.6 d; working expenses, ,sd, 3.5 d; capital expenditure, £52,427 15s 3d, £54,028 10s 7d'; credit balance, £733 la 2d, £4362 Is 2d. Commenting on the returns, the chairman of the milk committee, Councillor C. J. B. Norwood, said that reports had been circulated in regard to the loss being sustained by the council in the running of the milk department. He wished to draw the attention of the councillors to the fact that there was at present a credit balance of £4362 Is 2d. The, thanks of the council was due to the general manager of the "factory (Mr Ward) and his staff for the manner in which they had carried out their dutieß during the difficult period over the Christmas holidays, during which there had not been the slightest hitch nor any complaint. Councillor W. H. Bennett said it was gratifying to find that for the first, time since the institution of the station they were now on the right side of the ledger. The committee trusted that at the end of the winter season they would still be in the same satisfactory financial position.
