RECEIPTS & EXPENDITURE REVENUE SHOWS INCREASE OF £1,722,938. GREATLY REDUCED BALANCE. A comparative statement, gazetted yesterday, of the receipts and expenditure of the Consolidated Fund for the quarters ended December 31st, 1920, and 1919 respectively, shows that the balance ait the beginning off the December quarter, 1920, was £L,561,179, as against £13,035,986 for the corresponding quarter of 1919. The expenditure side of the account Shown a balance in hand at the end of December quarter, 1920, of £1,363.598, compared with £12,774,417 for the corresponding quarter of 1919. The permanent appropriations totalled £3,404,671 for 1920, against £3,204,689 for 1919; the annual departmental appropriations £4,375,901, against £3,172,930 for 1919. PUBLIC WORKS FUND. FDR DECEMBER' QUARTER. RECEIPTS, £1,985,648. EXPENDITURE, £1,388,126. The comparative Public Works Fund statement, gazetted yesterday, far the quarters ending December 31st, 1919 and 1920 respectively, show that the balance at the beginning of the last December quarter was £612,945, as against £406,462 at the beginning of the December quarter, 1919; and that, including the balances, the total receipts were £1,985,648, and those for the 1919 quarter £800,389. The debentures issued in the 1920 quarter totalled £1,050,000, as compared with £390,000 for the December quarter of 1919. The chief items of expenditure during the two quarters compare as follows:
