BIG CONTRACTS ACCEPTED. WELLINGTON FIRM SUCCESSFUL. Some time ago the Government called for tenders for the supply of 2250 tons of 1001 b steel rails, and 4300 pairs of fish-plates for railway construction. Tenders were received from other countries as well as New Zealand, and the Public Works Tenders Board, after considering those submitted, made a recommendation to Cabinet. That recommendation has been approved. The successful tenderer is John Duthie and Company, Ltd., of Wellington, and the contract price is £68,830 lis Id. Tho successful tender for the 3000 k.w. electric generator required for the Lake Coleridge plant was that of the National Electric and Engineering Company. Tho contract price is £11,086.
